We have a small kitchen, with limited counter top space and storage. Also, our kitchen is open to the rest of the home (no walls) and we wanted something that would serve multiple purposes, yet not be in the way every time we walked by. This island is perfect for our needs. I really love the hideaway bin! The trash bin that we were already using fit perfectly.

We didn't find the construction particularly difficult. There are lots of pieces, the instructions were helpful and it did take some time, but it was not confusing or frustrating at any point.

In spite of being fairly heavy, it's quite easy to move around. We've also added a small 'coat' rack, with hooks for towels.

The small drawer is poor quality. There is nothing to hold it in place when you pull it out, and one could easily pull it all the way out of it's space.

The construction quality is not all that great. However, nothing wobbles and nothing has broken or fallen apart, so I can see us using this for a long time.

The bottom line is that I love the island.

This item SHOULD be exactly what I need - I was so excited when I found it, because I had been looking for a freestanding island to hide my trash can; I have a relatively small kitchen and I don't have a drawer to hide trash in the counter. I ordered it right away and when I saw a few comments that said "this is difficult to assemble" I ignored them, because I am reasonably handy and because the item description only said "some MINOR assembly required." This description is misleading.

UNFORTUNATELY when this item arrived I found that it was, in fact, extremely difficult to assemble, I had to wait two weeks for a replacement part to arrive, and upon assembly the final product is very flimsy. I assembled the whole cart, left it sitting (with weights on the joints) for 24 hours to let the glue dry, and when I tilted it over and rolled it into my kitchen one of the legs fell off! So I am trying to shove the front leg back into the preassembled item - it's just a mess. And the "utility drawer" is made of something only slightly more sturdy than cardboard.

The rest of the item is constructed of a fairly sturdy laminate, and if you are really interested in putting together furniture, maybe you will enjoy this process, but I did not. I urge you to take the "con" reviews seriously - I would not recommend this item.

Customer service was OK, not great - I had to leave a message and received a return call two days later (to be fair I called on a Saturday). I was told that they would send a replacement panel; unfortunately they never sent the missing item and I had to call back a second time in order to get them to ship it. All during this time I had the partially assembled piece of furniture in my living room, which was very frustrating.

I have had my kitchen cart for about 1 month now and I love it!! It is very sturdy and looks great. I agree with the other comments that the instructions were not the greatest. It took me about 3 hrs to assemble the cart, but I was able to do it without any help from my husband. It's best to have an electric screwdriver handy! I polyurethaned the butcher block because I'm using my cart as a coffee bar and the bin holds my recycling.

We use this product in the kitchen. I purchased it because it is the perfect size to fit in a specific location, has a decent butcher block top, and a storage cabinet for my trash can. It was difficult to assemble mainly because it relies mostly on dowels and glue to hold it together. The hinge that allows the trash cabinet door to swing open was missing from the package and a week after notifying the company we still have not received it. Additionally, the drawer does not slide in and out on rails but simply slides out of a shelf made for it. I suspect the finish will wear over time. It does look nice and I'm sure it will serve it's purpose if/when the hinge ever shows up!

I use the Butcher Block Cart for food preparation, I also use it as a chopping block for vegetables and fruit, and it adds beauty to my kitchen decor.
